6 firefox extensions for webdevelopers and designers

I love firefox, and if you’re like 80% of the visitors to this site, I’m guessing you do too. But for us developers, designers, weblovers and geeks firefox can be made even better. I looked at my extension manager and found some of the plugins/extensions that I use every day. Check them out if you don’t already use them.

1. Firebug
Let’s start with the mother of all firefox extensions for developers. Firebug. I love this little insect. Seriously I don’t remember what I did before I had firebug. Edit your css, inspect elements on the fly and turn on and off your css style to see the result easily. That’s just some of the features of this extension.

2. Web Developer
The name says it all. Edit your CSS, Validate your pages, Watch your design in different resolutions with ease. Web Developer can do this and a whole lot more for you and it gives you a nice toolbar of features.

3. Dust-Me Selectors
Find unused CSS rules in your code. Great tool for cleaning up your CSS on a big site. easy to use and you’ll soon have a list of unused styles to delete from your page.

4. Live HTTP Headers
Live HTTP Headers lets you check the header data of your pages as you browse. As a webmaster it’s really useful when you have to do a 301 redirect or to check that your 404 page does in fact, spit out a 404 header. Great for when you need it, and the rest of the time it stays out of the way.

5. ColorZilla
Great little tool for finding the HEX colour value of images on your site. That’s all it really does, but that has saved me a lot of time. Every webdesigner should have this or something equal to it.

6. Greasemoney
Lets not forget this great extension, run your own scripts as you enter a site. There are a ton of userscripts for this that lets you do stuff to make your browsing easier. I have numbered google results for example on mine.

There you have it, these are my favourite extensions for firefox. Check them out and decide for yourself which will make your life easier.
